EXT. SOUTH AMERICAN RAINFOREST -DAY Rose and Dax trudge through the thick, humid forest.
DAX
(overly excited)
I feel like Indiana Jones searching for the Lost Arc... but instead of traveling
with Satipo the back stabbing native, I have you, the brilliant young sidekick!
Rose
Watch your step Indiana...
Dax nearly steps in a ditch, but catches himself, bounds off a tree and snatches
some berries.
DAX
Ahh, I meant to do that...These berries okay to eat?
Rose
(annoyed)
How should I know?
DAX
(matter of fact)
Because, you know everything. You're brain is like a sponge! I heard
you graduated from Harvard when you were ten.
Rose
Nine, and I don't know 'everything'. I hate it when people treat me like
I'm some sort of walking encyclopedia...
(Dax lifts the berries
toward his mouth)
...Baca Stickilerium, if you eat those you'll get dysentery and an itchy tongue,
why can't anyone get that I'm just a normal girl who wants to lead an anonymous
life.
Dax
(scoffing)
Anonymous? I'm Mr. Anonymous ...Better yet, Captain Anonymous! I've
been thrown out of airplanes, run over by buses, shot thirty seven times and
dragged behind a speeding train all while covering my face so the
"star" of the movie can be in the spotlight.
(a beat)
I wish just once I could be the star.
Rose turns, not sure what
to say, then notices the Ticuna Idol up ahead.
Rose
Look! The Ticuna Idol!
It hangs precariously over a very large sinkhole.
DAX
Hmmm...What would Indiana Jones do???
Rose
I dunno, but 'I' would gather some Liana's and Pitcher vines so we can fashion a
rope bridge.
DAX
Nonsense! Where's the peril? I'll jump from the top of this
tree, catch that low vine, and swoop over the sinkhole grabbing the Idol.
No whip necessary.
Rose
Okay, but make sure you catch the high vine or your trajectory will be off and
you'll come up short. Trust me, I'm never wrong.
DAX
Please, I'm a professional, I know what I'm doing.
Dax jumps, catches the low vine, grabs
the Idol, and lands on his butt...a bit short.
DAX
(pained)
See, just like that...
Rose
(Astounded; clapping)
That was great, Dax. You really are a star.
DAX
(breaks a smile)
Thanks. And for the record, you were right about the high vine!
(rubbing his butt)
