Drive Defender combined with
Launcher

Linear Review
The Drive Defender is
the basic weapon used by the Overdrive Ranger. Though it looks like we
have our second toy that met Bandai America's downsizing department.
The Defender itself looks okay. When in blaster mode, if you pull the trigger, a new laser blast sound is heard. It's then easy to morph the Drive Defender into Sword Mode. In this mode, the weapon measures about 14 1/4 inches long. This mode features a sword clash sound, with the press of the trigger.
The Drive Defender also comes with what Bandai America has named, a "Launcher". Though this is the part of the toy that suffered the most downsizing. It's Japanese Version is large and can fill up the palm of your hand. The Launcher included with the Drive Defender however, is only about 3 1/2 inches long. But the launcher can still fire the two missiles a fair distance. You can attach the Launcher onto the Drive Defender in Blaster Mode, via a normal "Zord Style" joint.
Overall, the Drive Defender is okay. Really, what hurts the most, besides the size shrinking, is the missing silver paint. For the young viewers, the Drive Defender is probably a good buy. It may be a tad small for the sword mode, but the Blaster mode looks better. For collectors, if you can't import the Survibuster & Scope Shot, then buy the Drive Defender and paint in the silver parts Bandai America left out. But if you can import, then I recommend it. So really, it's fine for the kids, and kinda okay for the collector.
