Linear Review
The Mega Vehicle for
Operation Overdrive is the Mega Response Vehicle. Meant to interact with
the Mission Response Figures from the fall line.
Okay, first this truck is HUGE. It measures about 19 inches long. It is, of course, based off of the Mercury Rangers Fire Truck Zord, but does not morph in any way. It comes with a Red Mission Response Power Ranger, but some sets come with a Mission Response Red Sentinel Zord Ranger instead.
The vehicle has two cockpit Sensors. These sensors, when placed with a Mission Response Figure, activate Ranger phrases. Here are the sayings for the two sensors:
Driver Cockpit
Sensor:
Male Voice "Overdrive", Male or Female depending on Ranger figure
"Ranger Color", Male Voice "Accelerate. So for an example,
Red Ranger, "Overdrive Red Ranger Accelerate".
Weapon Command
Cockpit Sensor:
Male or Female Voice depending on Ranger figure "Ranger Color Full
Power. Another example, Pink Ranger, "Pink Ranger, Full Power".
So there are not as many "New Sounds" to unlock as I personally expected. The vehicle also has fire engine sounds with the press of the light bar button.
The hoses on the vehicle can be extended and aimed. They fire out small green missiles with the press of a button. The hoses can also be attached to the side connectors of the truck, or be placed as arms on the DriveMax Megazord.
The back bay is a Launching Bay where, when the light bar button is pressed, a launching device fires. This device can fire HoverTek Cycles, ZordTek Cycles, or Ranger figures.
Overall, I a bit disappointed in the Mission Response Vehicle. Really, I expect the new sounds from the figures to be something more original. Not just the figures saying the exact same two phrases, depending on the sensor. It makes an okay playset, but I think Bandai America would have been better off to come up with a completely original vehicle to have their "Mega Vehicle" with this year. I think the S.H.A.R.C. would have been perfect for this. So really, the sounds and the looks of the Mission Response Vehicle are okay, the playability with the Mission Response Figures is not as grand as expected, but for kids it'll probably be some fun. For collectors, I'd wait till Wal-Mart, Target, or Toys R Us has a sale and it's marked down to about $30 before buying it. It does make a good piece to display your Mission Response figures with. So an okay for kids and an okay for collectors.
