Cell Shift Morpher - Engine
Cell Key Compartment Open

Yellow Ranger's Engine Cell
Key

Linear Review
And now we have the
Cell Shift Morpher - Morpher used by the Red, Blue & Yellow Rangers in the
show. While downsized from it's Japanese brother, it's still a good
Morpher.
As you can see, the Cell Shift Morpher is based off of the general design of a cell phone. When closed, the Morpher measures 4 inches long, 2 5/8 inches wide & about 1 1/4 inches thick. When open, the Morph measures 7 3/4 inches long, 2 5/8 inches wide & about 5/8 of an inch thick. So this Morpher feels pretty close to what a normal cell phone feels like.
There are three Engine Cell Keys that are included with the Cell Shift Morpher; the Morph Key, Blue Ranger's Key & Yellow Ranger's Key. The Yellow Ranger's Engine Cell Key is located behind the Morpher itself in the package. Each of the three keys will activate different sounds in the Morpher.
To open the compartment for the keys, you top right portion of the Morpher up and to the left. It is held closed by a small plastic tab. Insert you Engine Cell Key, close the lid and you're ready to play.
Let's start with the Morph Key. Once it is put in place and the lid locked, you'll begin to hear an engine revving sound. Press the Morph button (The Gold Button), and you'll hear a general voice say "Power Ranger, Powering Up!" and then the Morphing Sequence Sounds will occur. After that, if you press the Morph Button, you'll go through three different vehicle horn honks. The first being the Red Ranger's Zord, the second is the Blue Ranger's Zord and the last being the Yellow Ranger's Zord. To do the Morph Sequence Sounds again, you have to open the lid, snap it back down and then press the Morph Button Again.
Moving on, when you place the Blue Ranger's Engine Cell Key into place and lock it in, you'll begin hearing a motor start, followed by another normal revving sound. Then a sound of a vehicle speeding along will occur for a few seconds, press & hold the Morph Button to then activate the vehicle stopping sound. To start this process again, press the Morph Button.
Finally, when you load & lock the Yellow Ranger's Engine Cell Key in, you'll hear a beeping sound occur over and over for a few seconds. Press the Morph Button during this sound to hear a general voice say "Let's Go Rangers!" Then, when you press the Morph Button again, the beeping will start again. With another press of the button, the sound will stop without the voice.
I should note here that the Morph Button is the only functional button on the Morpher. All the other buttons are just for display & general imagination play.
Other Engine Cell Keys can be placed in the Cell Shift Morpher. Red Ranger's performs the normal Morph Sounds, while Green & Black's do the same as the Blue Rangers. The Rev Morpher's Morph Key does the same sounds as the Cell Shift Morph Key.
The sounds in the Morpher are not loud at all, as usual with most US toys. And it appears that the speaker doesn't even have a clear slot for the sounds to escape.

Kids

Kids are going to love this Morpher. It has all the main features as the one on the show will. They'll get three different Engine Cell Keys to play with, and they'll enjoy acting out the Morph sequences from the show.
Collectors

For collectors, this Morpher is a good choice if you're on a budget. Honestly, the Go-Phone from Japan is just not a great Changer at all. Not to mention, the Cell Shift Morpher's size makes it feel a lot more like a cell phone, than the Go-Phone does. Besides the obvious size changes, the differences in it and the Go-Phone are the buttons not being push up style. There's no voice sound of the three vehicles. The back is missing it's paint applications, and there's small areas of Red Paint missing. But really, this Morpher will easily fill in for the Go-Phone.

Ranger

I'm pleased with the Cell Shift Morpher. My one true concern is the small plastic tab that keeps the lid locked into place. I think it'll be able to maintain wear & tear, but I do wish they had come up with a better locking device for it. While at first I was a bit bummed about the having to unlock & re-lock to do the Morph Sounds, it actually makes sense, since the Rangers have to load the Keys each time to Morph. I do enjoy the fact that the Cell Shift Morpher really feels more like a Cell Phone than that of my Go-Phone. Most of all, I'm VERY grateful to Bandai America for be sure to give us all 5 of the Rangers Engine Cell Keys, between the Morphers, Nitro Blaster & High Octane Megazord.
